CS 1.6 is a GoldSrc engine game and is not hardware-intensive by modern standards. A server with a dedicated CPU core, 512MB of RAM, and 2GB of storage is sufficient for most standard servers. If you plan to run a heavily modded server with AMXModX plugins, custom maps, and 32 players, allocating 1-2GB of RAM and a higher clock speed CPU will give you noticeably better performance and stability.
CS 1.6 officially supports up to 32 player slots. Most competitive and community servers run between 10 and 20 slots for a balanced experience. 32-slot servers are common in deathmatch and surf game modes. We support the full range from small private servers up to 32-slot public servers.
Yes. AMXModX comes pre-installed on all CS 1.6 ReHLDS servers – no manual setup needed. On the Vanilla (Steam) egg, you can install AMXModX and Metamod manually with full file access via FTP or SFTP. Either way, you have complete freedom to add any plugins or scripts you need. Popular setups include admin management plugins, custom game modes like surf, bhop, and deathrun, anti-cheat plugins, and statsme or rank tracking systems. If you need help getting a specific plugin running, our support team can assist.
Yes. ReHLDS is available as a dedicated server type on all our CS 1.6 plans. When ordering, simply select CS 1.6 ReHLDS (Non-Steam) from the CS Server Type option at checkout. If you already have a Vanilla (Steam) server with us, you can switch to the ReHLDS egg at any time through the Client Area. The ReHLDS installation comes pre-configured with the full module stack: ReHLDS, Reunion, AMXModX, Metamod-r, ReAPI, and ReGameDLL_CS — all installed and ready to go from first boot, with no manual setup required.
Yes. Non-steam is a dedicated server type available at checkout. When ordering, select CS 1.6 ReHLDS (Non-Steam) from the CS Server Type dropdown and your server will be provisioned with the full ReHLDS stack pre-installed, including the Reunion plugin for non-steam client management. If you already have a Steam server with us and want to switch, you can change your egg to ReHLDS at any time through the Client Area without needing to order a new server. The ReHLDS configuration accepts non-steam clients, Steam clients, or both simultaneously right out of the box.
Our CS 1.6 servers run on Linux, which is the standard and recommended OS for HLDS and ReHLDS deployments. Linux offers better performance and stability for long-running game server processes compared to Windows, and the vast majority of AMXModX plugins and community tools are built with Linux compatibility in mind.
Yes. Because CS 1.6 server data is entirely file-based, migration is straightforward. You can transfer your existing cstrike folder including your maps, configs, AMXModX plugins, ban lists, and player stats directly to your new server via FTP or SFTP. Your server will be running in the same state as your previous host within minutes of uploading your files.
Our CS 1.6 servers are managed through a game server control panel that lets you start, stop, and restart your server, edit configuration files, manage files via a built-in file manager, view the live console, and schedule automatic restarts. Full FTP and SFTP access is also available for direct file management if you prefer working outside the panel.
Yes. You can switch plans whenever you want. Upgrades activate immediately after payment, and downgrades are applied at the start of the next billing cycle.
Map rotation is controlled by the mapcycle.txt file in your cstrike directory. Add or remove map names from this file, one per line, and the server will cycle through them in order. If you are running AMXModX with a map management plugin such as MapChooser, you can also configure vote-based map rotation directly through the plugin’s config files. Custom maps can be uploaded via FTP and added to the rotation the same way.
Yes. You can upload custom maps, models, sounds, and sprites to your server and players will download them on connect. For faster client downloads, we support FastDL configuration, where you host your custom content on a web server or CDN and point your CS 1.6 server to it via the sv_downloadurl setting. This significantly reduces download times for players joining with missing content and reduces bandwidth load on the game server itself.
CS 1.6 runs at 100 tick by default, which is the standard and recommended rate for the GoldSrc engine. Unlike the Source engine, GoldSrc does not support arbitrary tick rate changes in the same way, and 100 tick is the accepted competitive standard. Our servers are configured to run at 100 tick out of the box.
Yes, though the most common approach is to run separate server instances for each game mode, such as one for competitive, one for surf, and one for bhop. Each instance uses its own config, plugin set, and map rotation. Alternatively, AMXModX plugins like Mode Manager allow you to switch between preconfigured game mode presets on a single server instance without maintaining separate installations.
CS 1.6 servers cannot use VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) in a meaningful way outside of the Steam ecosystem, so community anti-cheat solutions are the standard. The most widely used options are dedicated AMXModX anti-cheat plugins that detect common wallhack and aimbot signatures, combined with SourceBans or CSBanManager for cross-server ban management. Active admin moderation remains the most effective layer of protection on busy public servers.
Our control panel supports automatic restart on crash, which means if your server process terminates unexpectedly, it will be brought back online automatically without any manual intervention. You can also configure scheduled restarts at off-peak times to keep memory usage clean on servers that run continuously for extended periods.
Yes. Setting sv_password "yourpassword" in your server.cfg restricts access to players who enter the correct password on connect. This is commonly used for private clan servers, scrimmage servers, and practice servers. The password can be changed at any time by editing the config and restarting the server, or live via RCON without a restart.
